Have some fun colouring
| This is a quick 2 layered tutorial using Photoshop to show how to colour and shade using the magic wand, burn and dodge tools | ||||
![]() | Just take a black and white cartoon character, relax and have some fun colouring and shading once you have filled with your colour prefference just use the doge or burn tool to shade below are some tips
![]() | Create a new layer above your black and white picture this new layer is your working layer, here you will add the colour and shading etc.. work between the two layers, use the magic wand tool at a tolerance of 0 click on the hair on the bottom layer to select it then go up to your working layer and fill with the colour of your choice
![]() | Continue to work between both layers adding your colour to the working layer till all filled it should look something like pic on the left
![]() | Before i carry on i must mention that i was not too happy with the position of the eyes . so i have changed them using a small brush
![]() | Now the fun starts, begin shading the hair using the dodge tool to lighten and the burn tool to darken, change the exposure or range and experiment, remember you can always click edit and step back if you make a mistake
![]() | The finished product This colouring excerise is fun but also useful in letting you get to grips with some of photoshop tools, why not try it out on other black and white drawings
![]() | The finished product Of course you can add a little glittery animation but that would be another tutorial
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial best wishes Shirley
